Flinstones: The Complete Sixth Season, The
For those who leave no stone unturned, here's the sixth and final season of the greatest archeological dig in cartoon history. And its 26 episodes are treasure well worth excavating! Exploring every realm of popular parody, "The Flintstones" delighted kids but tickled adults even more with howlingly funny takeoffs of such "trendy" TV shows as "Bewitched" (with the voices of Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York in Samantha), award-winning movies ("My Fair Freddy" and "The Treasure Of Sierra Madrock") and kitschy spoofs of Hollywood royalty in "Return Of Stoney Curtis." The show's writers even had the foresight to project into the future, as in "The Long Long Long Weekend," guest-starring the series' newest character, space alien Gazoo. Episodes Included: Disc 1: "No Biz Like Show Biz;" "The House That Fred Built;" "The Return Of Stoney Curtis;" "Disorder In The Court" and "Circus Business Samantha." Disc 2: "The Great Gazoo;" "Rip Van Flintstone;" "The Gravelberry Pie King;" "The Stonefinger Caper;" "The Masquerade Party" and "Shinrock-A-Go-Go." Disc 3: "Royal Rubble;" "Seeing Doubles;" "How To Pick A Fight With Your Wife Without Really Trying;" "Fred Goes Ape;" "The Long, Long Long Weekend" and "Two Men On A Dinosaur." Disc 4: (Side A) - "The Treasure Of Sierra Madrock;" "Curtain Call At Bedrock;" "Boss For A Day" and "Fred's Island." Disc 4: (Side B) - "Jealousy;" "Dripper;" "My Fair Freddy" and "The Story Of Rocky's Raiders." Sound Quality: Latin Spanish, Mono 1.

Robert Stafford of Cumberland Island: Growth of a Planter by Mary Ricketson Bullard,
Robert Stafford of Cumberland Island offers a rare glimpse into the life and times of a nineteenth-century planter on one of Georgia's Sea Islands. Born poor, Robert Stafford (1790-1877) became the leading planter on his native Cumberland Island. Specializing in the highly valued long staple variety of cotton, he claimed among his assets more than 8,000 acres and 350 slaves. Mary R. Bullard recounts Stafford's life in the context of how events from the Federalist period to the Civil War to Reconstruction affected Sea Island planters. As she discusses Stafford's associations with other planters, his business dealings (which included banking and railroad investments), and the day-to-day operation of his plantation, Bullard also imparts a wealth of information about cotton farming methods, plantation life and material culture, and the geography and natural history of Cumberland Island. Stafford's career was fairly typical for his time and place; his personal life was not. He never married, but fathered six children by Elizabeth Bernardey, a mulatto slave nurse. In her afterword to the Brown Thrasher edition, Bullard presents recently uncovered information about a second extralegal family of Robert Stafford as well as additional information about Elizabeth Bernardey's children and the trust funds Stafford provided for them.
